This guide will show you how to play Nintendo DS game ROM’s on your 3DS directly from SD card using TWiLight Menu++. TWiLight Menu++ adds a few features to DS games such as a cheats manager, increased sound quality and widescreen support. TWL Menu++ runs entirely in DS mode so some 3DS features will not be available while the application is running. It is compatible with the vast majority of DS games; TWiLight Menu++ DS Compatability List.

Required Downloads:

• TWiLight Menu Updater (.cia)

Hacked (New) Nintendo 3DS (XL) Console

• TWiLight Menu++ requires a hacked 3DS with FBI to install the homebrew application
• Follow this guide (with pictures) or Plailect’s guide on hacking your 3DS if you have not done so before

• An SD Card is required to store the exploit files and homebrew apps
• 32GB or more is recommended to store games
• The SD card must be formatted to FAT32
• MicroSD cards are compatible with Old 3DS consoles via a MicroSD to SD adapter

1. Insert your SD card into your PC
2. Extract TWiLightMenu.7z
3. Copy the /_nds/ folder to the root of your SD card
4. Copy the /roms/ folder to the root of your SD card
   
5. Go to the /DSi&3DS - SD card users/ folder
6. Copy the /_nds/ folder and BOOT.NDS file to the root of your SD card
7. Go to the /3DS - CFW users/ folder
8. Copy TWiLightMenu.cia and TWiLight Menu - Game Booter.cia to the /cia/ folder on your SD card
9. Copy TWiLightMenu-Updater.cia to the /cia/ folder on your SD card

1. Insert your SD card into your 3DS and power it on
2. Launch FBI on your 3DS
3. Go to SD -> cia
4. Select current directory -> [Install and delete all CIAs]
5. Press [Home] and go back to the Home Menu when the installation is complete
6. Unwrap and Launch TWiLight Menu Updater
7. Select the TWL Menu++ [Release] and wait for the files to install
8. Select the nds-bootstrap [Release] and wait for the files to install
9. Select the Updater [Release] and wait for the files to install
10. Select [Cheats] and wait for the files to install
11. Select [Extras] -> [Boxart] -> Press [X] and wait for the files to install
12. Press [B] to exit then press [Home] to go back to the Home Menu

Congratulations, you’ve installed and updated TWiLight Menu++. You’re now ready to launch the app and boot up some NDS ROMs.

1. Unwrap and Launch TWiLight Menu++ from your Home Menu
2. Select your console type and press [A] to confirm your selection
3. Press the yellow arrow on the bottom right corner when the DS Menu loads up to launch the TWiLight Menu UI
   
   It is not advised to use GBARunner2 to play GBA games as it does not fully support save files. It is recommended to install ROMs as Virtual Console titles instead as this has much higher compatibility with games and comes with the ability to apply sleep mode patches.
4. Navigate to /roms/ -> /nds/
5. Select your ROM to load the DS game

1. Highlight your game in the TWiLightMenu++ file explorer
2. Press [Y] for the information window then press [X] for the cheats window
3. Toggle cheats on and off with the [A] button then press [X] to save
4. Launch your game with the selected cheats

Congratulations, you’ve now setup cheats with TWiLight Menu++ so you can power through your Nintendo DS backlog without random encounters or Game Over screens.

3ds Cfw Ds Games

Thanks to new stuff being done on the 3DS DSi mode devs were able to get old NDS cheating tool NitroHax to boot on 3DS and use cheats on retail cards just like in the good old days ^^. Nitro Hax is a cheat tool for official games running on the Nintendo DS. It supports any Action Replay DS code type with a few important additions which means… Burry your AR Cards and hax all you can ;). There are a few tiny problem for now though. First of all NitroHax doesn’t work with many new games for now which means you will only be able to play older games and the second bad thing is that it can only read cheat databases up to 2,5mb but I hope that the Devs will manage to get around both issues shortly 😀

What you need to patch your TWL Firm:
Luma3DS v.6.1.1+
NitroHax
cheats.xml
R4CCE (To edit the cheat database so that you can get it below 2.5mb)

So let’s get started 😀
1. Setting up Luma3DS to use twlBg.cxi patches
1. Hold select while booting to open Luma3DS Config menu
2. Check “Enable experimental TwlBg patches”
3. Press start to save and reboot.
If DS Games stop working with this patch on you have to disable the patch to be able to play those games again because this can trigger the anti-piracy mechanism integrated in the games.

2. Install and use NitroHax
1. Download NitroHax and install it on your 3DS with your favourite CIA Installer
2. Download cheats.xml
3. Download and Open “R4CCE”. You will edit the cheats file with this so that it will be below 2.5mb
4. Open your downloaded cheats.xml with “File” -> “Open”
5. Remove all the cheats of games that you don’t own so that you get the filesize below 2.5mb
6. Use “File” -> “Save” to save your changes to the file.
7. Copy cheats.xml to the root of your 3DS SDCard. Five nights at freddys cheat game.
