Hello families. This post is a continuation of the previous iPad application post. As stated earlier, these are fun supplemental enrichment suggestions. I am not compensated for recommending an app nor am I saying you have to spend money on apps during this virtual learning period.
Free Typing Games .net
- TapTyping by Flairify LLC is my most used app. There is a free and paid version of this app. I have the educator version on my iPad. I love this app because it keeps data and we all know how important data is! This app allows you to input a user, take a speed test, and follow lessons to help increase speed and accuracy. This version says learn to type on your phone, but I use the iPad version in my therapy room.
2. Sock Puppets by Smith Micro Software, Inc. is a favorite of a few of my students. I have to admit, I love this app too. There is a free and paid version of this app. This app allows your child to choose a sock puppet and change the voice sound output (making the voice higher or lower). Once you have chosen a puppet, you can choose a background and props. The app sets the stage and and you press record. The arrow shows which sock puppet is “talking” and you can tap on each puppet to have a back and forth conversation. Once your puppet show is done, you save and playback. I like to have a pre-conversation with my students about what our puppet show will be about. This is a great way to practice speaking out loud to a device before attempting talk to text as an accommodation.
3. Little Solver Pre-School Logic and Little Solver Figural Analogies by Innovative Mobile Apps are great apps that provide data. Don’t let the names fool you. These apps can get detailed and tough. The main complaint of these apps is how difficult they actually are despite the name They are great apps to work on visual perceptual skills, but take practice. They can be customized to include; no change, change in classification, mirror image, change in size, change in number and many more. BE WARNED, YOU WILL FAIL AT SOME POINT AND THE SCREEN DISPLAYS THAT YOU FAILED AND YOUR ACCURACY. If your child is sensitive to failing a game, you might want to hold off on this app. However, I have many students that like to take on the challenge and crush their previous score.
4. Line It Up by Turbo Chilli Pty Ltd is well liked and used in my therapy room. Its a difficult visual game and definitely made for those students in higher grade levels.
5. Alien Buddies by Artgig Studio is an adorable and fun app. It address matching by color, shape, letters, and numbers. Drag the Alien into the correct pod and watch the Alien fly away!
6. Montessori Matching Board by Innovative Investments Limited has been a favorite matching app of mine for a number of years. It is can be fully customized making it easier or harder for students. It is a great app to work on scanning, finger isolation (for device function), and drag and drop.
7. My First App Ltd. has a number of apps for children ranging from 1 year and up. I have used the Match it Up applications by this company, but they have many apps that can be downloaded individually or in a bundle. Some of their apps are free and bundles can be $3.99

8. Baby Rattle Plus by Kid Baby Toddler LTD was one of the very first apps that I downloaded on my iPad when I started incorporating technology into sessions (almost 10 years ago). This app was originally called Baby Aquarium. When I worked in early intervention and at the pre-school level, I had many parents try to download this app. Unfortunately, it disappeared from the download list. Tonight as I have been photographing the apps for this post, I stumbled upon Baby Rattle Plus. To my surprise, the aquarium was included in this app. I am so excited! If you have a child who is working on pointing and beginning to track, this is such a great app. It is also a great distraction app if you are working on sitting skills or passive ranging.
9. Mazes and More by Solitaire, Mahjong, and Sudoku Comp is just one of many maze apps available. All you have to do is a quick search in the search bar for mazes and choose your favorite. Mazes can be a great way to work on visual motor and perceptual skills. This app has great reviews. It does have adds and allows for hints to be purchased, so you might want to see if you can disable this feature.
10. Freetypinggame.net is not an app, but a very useful website in the OT room and lives in the favorites bar at the top of my screen. It has typing games, lessons, and tests. You can work to earn printable certificates from 5 words per minute and up. There are multiple adds on this site not related to typing but, they are easy to distinguish from the typing content. You may need to supervise your child while they are working if you think they might click the adds. This is an easy and free website to continue to work on typing skills while we are virtually learning. I have included several pictures of my Chromebook screen for you to have a visual of the website. When playing games, I always choose the beginner level and classic tales. * A special note to parents who grew up in the 80’s. This website has typing Space Invaders. That is my favorite typing game and I sometimes practice after my students heads back to class. 😉
